Having a man claim great dreams and visions is one thing, but what does God think about all this talk about Nephite gold, and using it to beautify the future temple in Jackson County, Missouri? Great wealth and treasures have been promised the saints by the Lord. In a revelation to the Prophet Joseph, He said:

And if ye seek the riches which it is the will of the Father to give unto you, ye shall be the richest of all people, for ye shall have the riches of eternity; and it must needs be that the riches of the earth are mine to give; but beware of pride, lest ye become as the Nephites of old. (Doctrine & Covenants 38:39)

Even ancient records of the Nephites are to come forth in the last days. The Lord added:

I say unto you, that there are records which contain much of my gospel which have been kept back because of the wickedness of the people. (Doctrine & Covenants 6:26)

The Prophet Joseph Smith prophesied:

The White Horse will find the mountains full of minerals and they will become very rich. You will see silver piled up in the streets. You will see gold shoveled up like sand. Many will come with bundles under their arms to escape the calamities, and there will be no escape except by fleeing to Zion. ("The White Horse Prophecy", Visions of the Latter Days, Kraut, p.50)

The Prophet Brigham Young declared:

When it is necessary that we should possess gold in great abundance, the Lord will show it to us in vision, and we shall not have to prospect and dig to find it, as the wicked have to do. The liberty of the Saints is to possess power with God to open gold mines, when we want gold... (Journal of Discourses 10:2888)

The Apostle Orson Pratt stated:

There are no people now upon the face of the earth so rich as the Latter Day Saints will be in a few years to come. Having their millions, therefore they will purchase the land, build up cities, towns and villages, build a great capital city at headquarters in Jackson County, Missouri. (Journal of Discourses 21:135)

Joseph Smith and the ancient prophets saw both great wealth AND great distress at the same time. The wealth would be used to provide food and safety. Perhaps there is new meaning to the following quotes by Isaiah and Micah:

And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the MOUNTAIN of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; (Isaiah 2:2-3, Micah 4:1-2)

How amazing that they saw a certain "mountain" that would be "exalted" above all other mountains. Something would occur at this mountain that would cause many distressed people to "flow" to it. What would cause "nations" of people to leave their native lands and seek out this special mountain? Why would this "mountain" be classed as part of God's "house" or Kingdom? Why did these two prophets call it "the mountain of the Lord?"

Bishop John Koyle made a multitude of prophecies, all of which came to pass. Therefore, it seems very likely that the most important prophecy of all, about the mine coming in, will also be fulfilled. But only time will tell!
